SIPAT Successfully Developed 2-inch and 4-inch
C-Axis Sapphire Crystal
Chongqing, China, March 22, 2011 -- SIPAT (Sichuan Institute of Piezoelectric and Acoustooptic
Technology), a supplier of manufacturer of crystal materials for scientific research, manufacturing, processing and sales.The
categories of products involve piezoelectric, acoustooptic and optical crystal. SIPAT announced to have
succes-
sfully developed 2-inch and 4-inch C-axis sapphire crystal, which is currently the most demanding size in LED
industry. This inspiring news shows that SIPAT has promoted its R&D capability in crystal growth up to the first
rate level in the world.
Sapphire is an oxide crystal grown by Czochralski technique under high temperature, more difficult than what is
adopted to grow silicon for semiconductor industry. Compared with those produced by conventional KY
techniq-
ue, CZ technique grown sapphire has better availability and cost advantages, and CZ technique is more effective
in controlling diameter of crystal ingot. SIPAT would start up its mass production soon so as to meet urgent
de-
mand for 2-inch and 4-inch sapphire wafer from domestic LED manufacturers.
In 2010 sapphire wafer has met a heavily short supply. Consequently its price has been increasing dramatically.
SIPAT would strengthen its investment in developing sapphire growth equipment, crystal processing and test
eq-
uipment like cutting, lapping and polishing equipment for sapphire wafers, aiming at becoming the leading suppl-
ier of sapphire crystal and substrates for LEDs & SoS
industry.
